lyrics

I want a room of my own
In a house that I don’t share
I want to paint my walls
Have a drain not clogged with someone else’s hair.

I want some furniture
More than just one chair
I want to build some shelves
I want to get a cat and it's not fair
That two years wages still won’t get me there

I want to grow some herbs
Have a fridge all to myself
And a dishwasher
I want more than just one freezer shelf

I want to have a bath
Or at least a nice long shower
Electricity that lasts
Put the heating for more than just an hour
And maybe I could even grow a flower

But the market's fucked
If you don't want to rent
Fifty thousand pounds
Only gets you ten percent

Tories fuck the youth
Though their voter base is dying
They have far more properties
Than anyone needs

I'd really like a lounge
Where we actually just lounge
Instead of run our companies
And eat and live and all that's in between

I want to finish work
And sit in my own space
Don't want to make small talk
Or have blazing rows about the chores
Let's have a night with no-one slamming doors

I want to change a fuse, and do some DIY
Put up picture hooks, replace the floor, and fix the pipes.
I want to be house proud, take responsibility
But every mark I make gets inventoried

I want to put down roots, think about a family
One fixed address, so they can come and stay with me.
I pack my life in boxes almost annually
And start again from nothing, forgetting all these dreams

I want a room of my own
In a house that I don’t share
I want a place to call home
I want to get a cat and it's not fair
