lyrics

I want to write about #metoo but I don’t know where to start
I’ve so much rage inside feels like it’s tearing me apart.
I think of all the times that I’ve been felt up on the train
and every time a story breaks I relive all the pain.

And I don’t know what to say
To make the patriarchy go away
And I don’t know what to do
‘cept raise my hand and say #metoo

In bars in pubs in fields in clubs, Men’s hands upon my arse
Erections pressed against my back When I’m just trying to get past.
And you say we’re all humourless, that consent is too complex
But it’s really not that hard to say ‘would you like to have sex?’

And I don’t know what to say
To make the patriarchy go away
And it’s not all men I hear you cry
But it’s yes all women is my reply

it seems like every single day
One more abuser’s got away
With acting in an awful way
(breathe) all that you can say is that’s a shame
I liked his early work
He never seemed like such a jerk
The woman sounds a bit berserk
Maybe she's just doing it for attention

And I don’t know what to say
To make the patriarchy go away
And I don’t know what to do
‘cept raise my hand and say #metoo

When we're leered at on the bus
You think we shouldn't make a fuss
But you don't know what's best for us
If you’d ever asked I'd say
Every day I’m just so sad
I’m absolutely fucking mad
Everything’s so fucking bad
I just don’t have the words to do it justice.
